Come Alive

You stumble through your days Got your head hung low Your skies are a shade of grey Like a zombie in a maze You're asleep inside But you can shake awake

Over the last few months there have been a few songs that have been going through my mind on a repeat of sorts. Come Alive from The Greatest Showman has been one of them. Hearing the song, it was like my soul understood exactly what this felt like, like I had been walking around a bit like a zombie. I was doing good things. Some would say they were great things. There was so much impact that could be made, but the passion that burned so clearly once before had all but faded away and that was left was a remnant of what once was.

It took me a minute to realize that I had become a zombie of sorts, and even longer to realize what I would need to do to come alive.

Recently I made some very big and very difficult decisions to transition jobs, and focus on the thing that still had a flame burning inside me. This decision was not easy, because what I was doing was great work, and I still want the best for the families I worked with, the flame inside me was burning for something completely different.

He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’ Ezekiel 37:3-6

This verse is one that speaks to me now because I felt much like I was looking at the dry bones of my life while the Lord was asking me if they can live. I thought to myself maybe all these things are done, they are the dry bones that were once part of who I am. However, something happens hear when he speaks to the dry bones, they come back to life.
"You said death’s only sleeping With one word my heart was beating I rose up from my grave My fear was turned to faith" (You Came, Jonathan David and Melissa Helser)
One word caused Lazarus to raise from the dead, just Jesus saying his name. Now I feel a little like Lazarus coming out from the grave.
